Waiting For The Storm

Just a little rain and some wind so far on Monday - Sandy is supposed to hit land in N.J. this evening - we'll just have to wait to see what happens.

Hurricane Sandy

The town of Westport and the entire east coast is preparing for Hurricane Sandy which is expected to hit late tonight and tomorrow.  At Compo Beach - the sand has been pushed up to the edge of the beach to protect against erosion and flooding.  We're all prepared I just hope we don't lose power!

One of the original iron gates at Waveny Park makes a dramatic statement with the fall foliage.

Late October Roses

The rose garden in Waveny Park in New Canaan is still in bloom.  This gorgeous specimen in a stunning shade of pink is still going strong into late October!

Autumn Color

A very colorful Maple tree in Central Park is starting to show the true colors of the autumn season.

With Halloween just one week away  -  Jack-O-Lanterns are popping up all over.  This one on the Upper West Side of Manhattan is particularly cute!

American Elms

The leaves are just beginning to change in Central Park  -  the late afternoon sun through the elms is just stunning.

GreenFlea

Manhattan's best flea market - GreenFlea - takes place on Sundays along Columbus Avenue.  They have a large selection of vendors, as well as prepared food and a farmer's market.  This little vignette caught my eye and holds some of my favorite things - cats and glassware - blue no less!

A lovely day today - a true indian summer day!  A little kayaking at high tide in Gray's Creek and a stroll at the beach.  I like to take advantage of the nice days at this time of year because who knows how long they will last.

It was a sparkling sunny day - and much warmer too!  It's too bad all autumn days aren't just like today.

Trout Brook Valley

With cool autumn-like temperatures today, it was nice to get bundled up and go for a hike up to Trout Brook Valley.

Zucchini Picking

Columbus Day and no school today - so it was the perfect time to go to Warrup's Farm and pick some organic vegetables.  I got tons of zucchini and kale --- curried zucchini soup tomorrow!

Sunny Day

The sun finally came out for a fantastic Friday - I just had to spend the day near the shore. A nice walk at the beach in the morning - and at high tide - kayaking to Gray's Creek.  What a beautiful October day!

Sunshine?

The sun hasn't shown it's face in three days - we have to look for brightness and sunshine in other ways.  This patch of goldenrod on Hillspoint Road gets the job done!

A very dreary day is brightened by two stunning swans on Sherwood Mill Pond.  Will the sun ever come out this week?

Turkey On The Roof

With a 10:00 dental appointment and rain all day - October 2nd was not the most interesting day.  The most exciting thing that happened today was the turkey on the roof - although I did not get a picture of it on the roof - his friends were running all over the yard.

Sometimes Sugar Plum just likes to sit outside on a sunny afternoon and watch the world go by.
