The Pulitzer Fountain

A trip to New York on the day of the "tree lighting" - which I didn't see  -  I did see some festive windows and some exhibits at the Met.  The beautiful Pulitzer Fountain in front of The Plaza Hotel was decorated for the season with hundreds of Christmas trees.

Put Away The Pumpkins?

With Thanksgiving over and only one more day of November - it's just about time to put away the pumpkins and get out the Christmas decorations.

Warm November

One more warm day for an unusually mild November - we have had  a wonderful autumn but December is not far off.

More Kayaking!

Another wonderful warm November day!  I've been so lucky to get a few more days of kayaking in before I have to bring my kayak home for the winter - in about 2 weeks. I have been making the most of the  60+ degree days this month!

Trout Brook Valley

Trout Brook Valley is a nature preserve in Weston and Easton, Connecticut with wonderful trails for humans, dogs and horses to enjoy.

Bittersweet

A vibrant patch of Bittersweet sparkles in the afternoon sun.  Though very colorful, Bittersweet is a pesky vine that spreads quickly if allowed to grow. 

John Read Road

Taking a walk on John Read Road in Redding is a favorite autumn past time - with the golden leaves of the Sugar Maples lining the road it's always very beautiful.

Great Blue Heron

A well camouflaged  Great Blue Heron hunts for prey on the island in the middle of Gray's Creek, on a sunny fall afternoon.

Gray's Creek Autumn

The fog burned off just before noon today on another beautiful, warm autumn day.  I couldn't resist taking the kayak out one more time - the colors of autumn were glowing in the midday sun - in Gray's Creek.

Kayaking In November

How lucky were we today to have such a warm and beautiful day in November!  The view from my kayak was incredible - the water was like a mirror.

Autumn Leaves

Well, I guess it's really autumn now - I've noticed the leaves changing and falling this week and it's been staying cold all day.  Can't we have a few 'Indian Summer' days before the cold really sets in?

Back To Normal

After an almost week-long ordeal - everything is getting back to normal. I was able to get down to the beach today to take a walk, I saw this beautiful crimson foliage against one of my favorite houses in the beach area.  Stunning!

November 2, 2011

It's a miracle - I saw this sign while driving home in the afternoon and I was so excited.  The electricity was turned on at 5:15 pm by a wonderful crew that came all the way from West Virginia to help out. Now why can't the Connecticut workers do a better job?  We had no electricity for 5 days.

My schedule for this week:  Drive my daughter to school from Fairfield (where we are staying at the Fairfield Inn), go home to check on the cat (who has been staying in a freezing house), start a fire to try to warm up the freezing house, sit out on the deck in the beautiful afternoon sunshine. In the evening it's back to the Inn to shower and sleep.

October 31, 2011 Halloween!!

In many towns across Connecticut - Halloween activities were cancelled and re-scheduled to November 5 -  have you ever heard of such a thing!  Still waiting for the electricity to come back on.

Well  -  this was not the best year to start a Picture of the Day blog - we have had 2 natural disasters in the past 2 months.  Since I have not had electricity since Saturday - I have not been able to make my daily posts.  Now let me get caught up.......5 inches of snow in Westport in October with all of the trees full of leaves  - this leads to extensive power outages.

What an adventure.
